Blue Dog Beer Tavern
“A Big Party in a Little House” truly sums up the vibe that is the Blue Dog Beer Tavern. If ever there was a place where the spirit of easy dining and laughter come together and where friends, families, and groups can feel welcome, it is hands down the local neighborhood Blue Dog Beer Tavern in Sherman Oaks.
Recently voted one of the “Best Sports Bars” in Los Angeles by L.A. Weekly, the tavern has captured the imagination of the greater community in which it thrives. Since 2009, over 500,000 meals have been served to customers who arrive with anticipation and leave with a joyful experience loving the boundless energy and feeling of community the Blue Dog offers.
The Blue Dog covers the world of artisanal beers, whether from California, the rest of the nation or, some of the finest breweries in Europe. Eight beers on tap are rotated regularly and up to twenty additional bottles will delight even the most discriminating beer enthusiast. Our knowledgeable staff guides guests through a short yet thoughtful list. From a light, crisp pilsner to a hearty yet refreshing hefeweizen to a Scottish black ale that “pours like black ink”, the Blue Dog’s well-created list is guaranteed to find you a winner, and keep you coming back to explore further!
There is something for every appetite at the Blue Dog – burgers, salads, sandwiches, beer and wine. The appetizer list includes hummus, wings, mac-n-cheese, and hand-cut “bottlecaps” or deep fried jalapeno slices – all served in a relaxed atmosphere with an attentive and fun team setting the tone and making each guest feel they have been invited to an intimate caring place.
A dozen gourmet burgers include a hand-formed house blend of brisket and chuck roll that is ground in-house to maximize freshness and juicy bliss. The Blue Dog’s bun is an artisan potato bun, grilled and caramelized to a crispy, slightly sweet perfection to hold up to all the juices of the beef and other toppings. Along with these decadent burgers, the Blue Dog hand-cuts their fries and sends them through multiple processes before they hit the plate, hot and crispy.
Our tavern customers are embraced by neighborhood history. The building where it all goes down is a 1940s-era California bungalow that offers an indoor and intimate patio dining experience. Much of the original 70-year-old interior framing is exposed to show the quality of craftsmanship and the pre-WWII “dimensional” lumber (2×4’s are actually 2” x 4”!).
We look forward to welcoming and serving you at the Blue Dog Beer Tavern!
