Blu Jam Cafe has been open since January 31 at Village Walk, a new Tarzana development with Whole Foods as an anchor tenant. Chef-owner Kamil Majer also runs branches in Hollywood, Sherman Oaks, Woodland Hills and Tokyo and has made the San Fernando Valley his primary focus.

A patio-lined, 121-seat space with succulent planters gives way to a glass-fronted dining room. The interior features brick and cream-colored walls, lanterns that resemble fried eggs, and a copper shielded coffee bar. Black-and-white photos of jazz greats hang in back, along with a wall-mounted saxophone. Soft jazz music plays.

Breakfast specialties include crab Benedict with lemon-tarragon Hollandaise sauce and crispy leeks; crunchy French toast rolled in corn flakes and served with vanilla bean sauce; and Kamil’s breakfast, macaroni scrambled with eggs, bacon, ham, garlic, chives and Cheddar cheese. Brunch Carbonara features a molded disc of crispy Arborio rice studded with crispy nitrate-free smoked bacon, green peas, parsley and Parmesan. Two poached eggs are passengers on this dish, which rests in a moat of herb pistou.

Lunch brings house-made soups like vegan split pea or mushroom vegetable; a Tex-Mex burger with smashed avocado, house pico de gallo, chipotle aioli and Cheddar; and a free-range turkey Reuben with house-made Thousand Island dressing, caraway seeds, sauerkraut and molten mozzarella cheese. You’ll also find salads and protein-centric entrees.
