Dressing the Part
Nashville actress and Valley resident Judith Hoag on her new double life, her eclectic sense of style and the cowboy boots she just can’t seem to spring for.
Judith Hoag’s life has taken a pretty busy turn in recent years—ever since she landed the part of Tandy (the sister of Connie Britton’s character Rayna) in the hit ABC series Nashville. Part of it is splitting her time between a home in Studio City—shared with her husband (also an actor) and two kids—and Nashville, where the series shoots.
“I was thrilled to get the role. It was a bit of a mountain to climb to get it, but it was worth it,” Judith shares, adding that she couldn’t be happier. “I’ve fallen in love with our cast and with the city of Nashville—it’s a really amazing town.”
When it comes to fashion, the New England native keeps organized and stays true to what she knows works. She describes her style as “bohemian chic meets Zen Hollywood” and shares that she tends to dress according to mood.
One of the perks of working on a network series is being dressed by a pro. In Judith’s case, it is Nashville costume designer Susie DeSanto.
“She dresses us all so beautifully (and expensively) that she’s ruined me! A recent favorite outfit mixed a Chanel jacket, Versace blouse, Gucci scarf with Hudson jeans and booties. But I’m also just as comfy in a T-shirt, pair of workout pants, Pilates socks and flip-flops while shopping at Trader Joe’s.”
As for whether she’s been influenced by country styles, Judith says, “I do tend to dress more casual in Nashville than I do in LA, but I still haven’t bought a pair of cowboy boots. I’m waiting to get up my courage to drop that kind of cash on a pair of boots!”
