Flavor of LA returns to Studio City’s CBS Studio Center for the third straight year on Sunday, May 19, featuring tastes from more than 70 food and drink vendors—more than 20 vendors beyond last year’s roster. Participants include new restaurants like Petit Trois Le Valley (classic French), Los Balcones (progressive Peruvian), Tatang (modern Filipino) and Bluebird Brasserie (Belgian brewpub). Returning favorites include Barrel & Ashes, The Bellwether and The Front Yard.

The roster is primarily local but does dip up and over the hill to lure concepts like Bistro Jolie (and sister concept Jayde’s Market), plus repeat participants like Uncle Paulie’s Deli. Karen Young, another writer here at The Sauce, curated the vendors. In general she prefers “a balance of different cuisines and types of vendors—those that are well known, small and somewhat undiscovered.”

When it comes to sweets, she favors “smaller shops with a unique niche” like Pascal Patisserie—a French bakery in Woodland Hills; Horchateria Rio Luna—a creative Mexican dessert shop in San Fernando; and Baklavalicious—a mail-order-only concept from Madera that makes atypical flavors like salted caramel hazelnut and golden fig.

“Smaller, boutique” selections extend to beverages, with picks like Four Brix Winery from Ventura, MacLeod Ale from Van Nuys and Jardesca California Aperitiva—a husband-and-wife-run aperitif brand based in Sonoma.

The backdrop is another notable aspect of this food event, taking place on a historic studio backlot where shows like Seinfeld and Gilligan’s Island filmed. In fact, this year’s Flavor of LA takes place at the cross streets of My Three Sons and Gunsmoke.

Flavor of LA, which benefits the North Hollywood High School Music Department, takes place on Sunday, May 19, 1 to 5 p.m. $75 all-inclusive tickets include all-you-can-eat food and drink, plus free parking. flavorofla.com
