Fortyone Fortyone, a casual corner restaurant located northeast of Universal Studios at 4141 Lankershim Boulevard, features a varied menu of breakfast items, sandwiches and salads, but rarely seen Swedish specialties are the main draws.

Linda Andersson grew up outside of Gothenburg on Sweden’s west coast, catered movies and TV shows for the past 15 years and opened Fortyone Fortyone in 2014. Her space sports a tan facade and rail-framed patio that gives way to a dining room with art-liked orange and brown walls, wood tables topped with potted succulents, and coffee bar.

Gravlax Plate ($8-12) showcases silky house-cured salmon. Salmon is cured for three to four days in traditional fashion with salt, sugar, dill and white pepper before being served with honey mustard dill sauce, mixed greens and toast. Bread comes daily from Agostino Bakery, which the husband of Linda’s sister runs in Oxnard.

Toast Skagen ($7) features tiny, sweet bay shrimp from Santa Monica Seafood tossed with dill, lemon, mayo and crème fraiche. A heap of shrimp is served on top of a round of grilled brioche with sliced tomato, mixed greens and a squeezable lemon wedge.

Fortyone Fortyone also sells Swedish meatballs, beef and pork orbs served with mashed potatoes, gravy, lingonberries and pickled cucumbers. Swedish meatballs are also available on a sandwich. Swedish pancakes with cloudberry jam and whipped cream also make an appearance.
