What: SpreadPB is a nutty, fast-casual peanut butter bar with a Chipotle-style ordering system opened this past weekend in the strip center anchored by Peet's Coffee and Tea. This "not-for-kids-only" eatery is the brainchild of 20-something 818 natives and longtime friends Dustin Alpert and Katie Kerr (below).

The concept: Peanut butter every which way you like it with house-made branded nutty spreads, such as dark chocolate, coconut and green curry. Almond and maple almond butter are offered alongside peanut butter. Gluten-free bread ($1.45 extra) as well as celery and apples are base options.

The food: Create your own or order one of the house favorites, including: The Elvis (a nutty spread with honey, bananas and bacon); Diet Starts Monday (dark chocolate PB, nutella and chocolate chips); Berry Berry Nuts and Bananas (above: blueberry bread, a spread, strawberries, blueberries and bananas); Banana Sushi (below: banana rolled in a tortilla with creamy or crunchy peanut butter, cut into eight sushi pieces); Chicken Curry (grilled chicken, green curry peanut butter and a choice of jam). There are also snacks, smoothies (Black and Tan: PB and chocolate = Reese’s in a glass!)

The prices: Build-Your-Own is $5.95/toppings, $.55 each; favorite selections are $5.95 to $6.95.

The look: Designed by Tumbleweed & Dandelion (great store on Abbot Kinney, FYI), the small, narrow space looks like a country store and aims to put a smile on your face with colorful picnic tables, wood crates, vintage-style soda, kitsch art and jars of SpreadPB and jam, of course.

Overflowing party-goers at the opening.

SpreadPB, 2215 Ventura Blvd., Studio City. (818) 980-2472. Open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
