What: Comfort Food is a Sherman Oaks-based cooking school, catering company, retail shop, rental kitchen and team-building/meeting space rolled into one—for both amateur and professional cooks.

Who: It is owned and operated by chefs Andy Pastore and Caren Watts, who have a combined four decades of experience between them with teaching credits that include LA’s Kitchen Academy and Le Cordon Bleu.

The Kitchen: Complete with 36 gas burners, a double-stack convection oven, two deep fryers, one four-foot grill, two Hobarts, an ice cream machine, a walk-in, industrial mixing bowls, cookware, racks and other commercial kitchen items.

The Retail Space: They will sell their own line of artisanal products as well as locally sourced products, including house-roasted coffees, rubs, salts, and handmade mortar and pestles. An exclusive brand to note: handcrafted wood utensils from Gopherwood in Santa Barbara.

The Classes: There will be classes for all ages with a few opportunities coming this month: a "parent and me" intermediate class with a pasta theme for kids ages 7 to 13 on June 17 (4 to 7 p.m); a three-day cooking camp weeks for kids ages 8 to 14 begins June 22; and a one-time adult class with vegan chef Yvonne Ardestrani will be held on June 27. Note: The website lists a slew of classes; however the actual date details are not yet listed.
