Stanley’s Restaurant, a Sherman Oaks institution for 32 years, has closed permanently, according to local news reports and the restaurant’s Facebook page. The Los Angeles Daily News reported that the closure follows what was expected to be a temporary shutdown earlier in the month for several food and safety violations by the county Department of Public Health.

Owner Greg Sadofsky did not respond to an email request for comment, and there is no answer at the restaurant’s phone number. The closure was confirmed by an emotional Facebook post which reads in part:

"To our dear friends and family: Stanley's has enjoyed serving you for the past 32 years. The health department actually gave us the OK to open but the owners have decided it's time to retire … Stanley's is more than a restaurant.. It's a place where we all know everyone, we're family and there's a lot of people who are sad they can't join us everyday including our staff. So thank you for the good times, feel free to say any wonderful memories here on the thread.. If you have anything negative to say then go where you're supposed to go…"

In 2013, Stanley’s—located at 1387 Ventura Boulevard—was noted in Ventura Blvd magazine as a Locals Choice finalist among restaurants offering alfresco lunch. That same year, the magazine offered this story on the restaurant’s executive chef Robert Horner and his recipe for a favorite salad.
