Bubbles

From authentic French Champagnes to crowd-pleasing proseccos and moscatos from Italy to generation-next producers right here in the U.S., bubbles abound for holiday toasting.

Picking the right bubbly means matching the occasion—if it’s just you and your beloved, splurge on “real” Champagne and look for lesser-known producers at wine shops where the staff has actually tasted what they sell.

If you’re looking for big volume without sacrificing quality, there are a number of domestic brands like Domaine Chandon or Domaine Carneros that combine good-value California wine with French technique.

And if you’re looking to make cocktails, consider the excellent sparkling proseccos from Mionetto, which are perfect for mixing up a signature sipper. Experiment with unusual juices or herbs and perfect your own “Champagne” cocktail. I like Mionetto with a dash of St. Germain liqueur and a freshly-picked, upside-down lavender frond for a swizzle stick. Cheers.
