Tell us about a complex challenge you helped a patient solve.
“A woman who had undergone several previous nasal cosmetic surgeries came to me with a severe nasal deformity and nasal obstruction. I had to devise an innovative surgery using bone grafting and ear cartilage to fully reconstruct her nose. The surgery was very extensive and took about six hours. After surgery, not only was she elated with the cosmetic outcome, but she was able to breath without any restrictions. In another challenging case, I cared for a man with a six-month history of ear blockage. He had been examined by several otolaryngologists who had not identified any problems. I was able to find a cancer in the back of his nasal passage. He received radiation therapy and has remained alive and healthy over the last seven years.”
What skill is most important when caring for patients?
“After 15 years in practice, I have developed a great rapport with my patients. I have been meticulous in developing empathy and an ability to understand my patients’ concerns. I pride myself in my ability to communicate will all my patients and to put them at ease during a very stressful situation. In addition, I have put great emphasis and effort on refining my surgical skills and yet treating each patient as a vulnerable human being. I continue to study and take courses in my eld to be able to o er cutting-edge treatment for all my patients.”
Area of Expertise
I trained for 11 years at UCLA School of Medicine, including residency and facial plastics fellow-ship. I also served as assistant clinical professor at UCLA. I am double-boarded in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery and otolaryngology. I am very comfortable with all aspects of facial cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. I excel in rhinoplasty and truly enjoy facial rejuvenation. I feel confident that my experience in minimally invasive facial surgery will serve my patients well.
The most memorable moments of my career have been the times that I have spent on medical missions in South America and local neighborhoods. I have had the opportunity to care for children with facial disfigurements. I was able to save lives by removing and reconstructing facial cancers. These have been the most gratifying experiences of my life. I look forward to my next visit to underprivileged parts of the world.
Before & After
A well-done rhinoplasty can be a life-changing event for a person. Often, the young patient seeking a rhinoplasty is lacking in self-confidence and ashamed of their facial appearance. They are hesitant to apply for that job or go on that date. Frequently, after their rhinoplasty, they show more confidence, more comfort in daily interactions and general increased satisfaction in their life.
