Barbecue Calabasas

Pedalers Fork BBQ Works Well for Summer

For the past 18 months, Pedalers Fork has been serving barbecue. Chef Dan Murray switched from charcoal to oak and took the smoked meat to another level.

Pedalers Fork is a multifaceted compound in Old Town Calabasas. The quaint location includes a restaurant with an outdoor patio that is perfect for an alfresco meal—the 10 Speed Coffee Shop. There is also a bicycle shop on the premises.

New at Pedalers Fork: For the past 18 months, they’ve been serving up some serious barbecue. Chef Dan Murray switched from charcoal to oak, which takes smoked meat to another level.

The eatery sells three different meats a la carte by weight: Watkins Ranch grass-fed beef brisket (lean or fatty), pulled pork shoulder and pork spare ribs. Mary’s free-range chicken is also available by the quarter, half or whole bird. Pedalers Fork also offers any meat on a sandwich or packages them all into a multi-person sampler platter.

I ordered pork spare ribs, which were juicy and tasty, although the end pieces were leathery and tough. My suggestion would be to request that they don’t include end pieces.

Pedalers Fork caters to cyclists and other sporty diners. They serve plenty of healthy dishes that won’t increase drag in the Santa Monica Mountains, including artichoke and kale hummus, roasted cauliflower tacos with cashew cheese, and pan-roasted Baja striped bass. Sometimes, though, a meal calls for smoky, sticky BBQ.
